This piece was done without any references, purely from an internal motivation to express a vision that came from the soul. A selfie, like a self portrait, reflects back to you who you are presenting to the world. In this imagining, I use the phone the figure is holding as if it is a mirror holding up the light she holds, which symbolizes the soul. In a photograph or painting, you are capturing your soul, and it is reflected back to you in an object that now lives outside of you.
