In the words of the artist:

“Persephone has been a multi-faceted mythical figure for centuries. She personifies both dark and light, as the unwilling queen of the underworld and the bringer of both Spring when she emerges from the depths, and winter when she goes back down again. She brings the cycles of the seasons and scatters life, joy and growth with her presence. In my depiction of Persephone, she is a caped ice queen emerging from the mouth of a dark and cold underworld, bringing with her the promise of life in the form of one of the first flowers of Spring, the Narcissus. Her expression is both long suffering and determined as she embraces her role of duality.”
